    Stefania Pigato is an Italian choreographer and Director of the pre-professional program focused on contemporary dance, The Bridge Pigato Contemporary (Zanè - VI). She trained in Italy and abroad, studying with Noelle Winkelman (classical-Geneva Academy), Matt Mattox (jazz), Joe Alegado (modern - Limon), Jan Marc Boitiere (member of contemporary exams - French State), Stephen Petronio (contemporary), Nicole Caccivio (partnering and contact improvisation).

    She directs her company from 2000 to 2009, realizing various theatrical productions that are presented in many International Festivals and Theaters, including: Roesso Mondo (Padua), Opus Ballet (Florence), Vicenza Danza Festival (Vicenza), Pergine Spettacolo Open (Trento), Augenblicks Theater (Vienna), International Urban Dance Festival (Bologna). As a choreographer she collaborates and is invited by several prestigious companies including MAGGIO DANZA (Florence), OPUS BALLET (Florence), M.M COMPANY (Reggio Emilia), VERVE - NORTHERN SCHOOL OF CONTEMPORARY DANCE (Leeds - UK), Postgraduate CONSERVATOIRE NATIONAL SUPERIEUR MUSIQUE ET DANSE (Lyon - FR).

    She develops a particular choreographic research that brings her closer to the creation of installations and site specific works, that are works aimed at the enhancement and interaction of architectural sites, urban and industrial spaces. With this idea, she creates some dance and architecture productions: Inauguration of the Farina Institute (Vicenza) renovated by the well- known architect Portoghesi (Director of the Venice Biennale), production of Pergine Spettacolo Aperto (Pergine-Trento), Urban Dance Festival (Piazza Maggiore - Bologna) . Always in alternative- industrial spaces she creates choreographic performances for brands such as Police and Givenchy (International eyewear fair - Milan), Owl (Pitti moda - Florence), Prato expo (International textile fair - Leopolda station - Florence), Bioline (International cosmetics fair - Bologna), Andretto design (Reggio Emilia), Credem (Castello Felino - Parma).

    Since 2005 she has been focusing on the technique and the methodology of contemporary dance, developing her own "PIGATO CONTEMPORARY" method, which is requested by many International schools and centers. She collaborates with Institutions and centers for the professional training of contemporary dance, for dancers and teachers: Opus Ballet (Florence), State Choreographic Academy Riga (Latvia), Agora Project (Reggio Emilia), Il Balletto (Castelfranco Veneto). She’s in addition a tutor for the Royal Academy of Dance inside the Summer School of Royal Academy of Dance (Italy) and in training courses for teachers (Cpd). Many of her choreographies, carried out at higher education schools, are awarded several times in International Competitions. She is invited as a jury member in competitions and as a teacher for auditions at International schools.

    PIGATOCONTEMPORARY
    THE METHOD

    The intensive and detailed exploration of motion at the foundation of the Pigato Contemporary method makes full use of a thorough understanding of classical dance in its effort to bring an artistic expression filled with elements suited to the understanding of contemporary dance.
    New paradigms of motion emerge from the development, modification, revolution and evolution of classical dance. These principles are derived from the fusion of various contemporary dance techniques as well as from Stefania Pigato’s personal experimentation. 
    Studying this method results in the command of a spontaneous and seamless style based upon constant motion that is agile and rapid with a wealth of natural virtuosity in which technique is at the service of innovative standards. 

    Nothing in this technique is left to improvisation.
    Each passage/element or standard is expressed through specific exercises in progress and the technique, although it produces fluid and weightless motion, it is supported by an elaborate conceptual work of analysis. 

    The method itself is seconded by choreographic work articulated upon various levels of difficulty which are, in turn, succeeded in the method.

    The choreographic repertoire features solo studies, pas-de-deux or group compositions.

    Every choreographic work embraces a specific interactive message sustained by a dramatic plot which develops the theme of the chosen work. 

    The complete method – which envelopes technique, contact improvisation, partnering and choreography – delivers technical, stylistic, expressive and creative values in a way that is easily and clearly conveyed.

    The didactics of the Pigato Contemporary method are subdivided into a series of lessons that follow a specific progression of difficulty.

    Lessons are held at the “centre” without the aid of the dance barre, integrating several aspects and work programmes. The lessons are structured around a series of exercises, diagonals, variations, body contact, partnering elements, analysis of choreographic sequences that include solos, pas-de-deux and choreographic compositions.

    The PIGATO CONTEMPORARY method is requested in many schools in Italy and abroad such as: IL BALLETTO (Castelfranco Veneto - TV), OPUS BALLET – CENTRO INTERNAZIONALE DI DANZA E SPETTACOLO (FI), SUMMER SCHOOL – ROYAL ACADEMY OF DANCE (Val di Non – TN), ACCADEMIA STATALE (Riga – Latvia), NORTHERN SCHOOL OF CONTEMPORARY DANCE (Leeds - UK), DANCE EDUCATIONAL CENTER (Tombolo – PD), LABORATORIO DANZA (VR), DANZA MANIA (Pergine – TN), PROGETTO DANZA (Legnago – VR), DIDANZA (Zanè – VI), ARTE IN MOVIMENTO (Asolo – TV), ALIINSCENA (Arzignano – VI). 

    Many Italian dance teachers are studying and practicing the PIGATO CONTEMPORARY method.
